WHAT IS BOCCE BALL?
Known by the Italians as lawn bowling, bocce ball is one of the most widely played sports in the world, not to mention one of the oldest yard games.
Walk-in to this old-world sport turned new school phenomenon. Matches are paired on a first come, first serve bases. Two teams start the match with a member of one team throwing a small ball, the pallino or jack, from one end of the court to the other. The teams then switch off throwing larger balls, the bocci, at the jack. The team closest to the jack after all team members have thrown, wins the point. Simple yet strategic.
